Basketball Game Preview: Decatur Golden Gators vs. Evergreen Wolverines

The Decatur Golden Gators just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Evergreen Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Decatur has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Decatur is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Thursday with ease, bagging an 85-55 win over Jefferson. The score was close at the half, but the Golden Gators pulled away in the second half with 54 points.

It was another big night for Jorge Martinez, who went 9 for 12 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven assists and six steals. His evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dar Mcjimpson Jr, who posted 18 points.

Decatur smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Evergreen played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 86-39 loss at the hands of Inglemoor. The Wolverines were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 56-21.

Decatur's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Evergreen, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Decatur was able to grind out a solid win over Evergreen in their previous meeting back in December of 2019, winning 59-51. Does Decatur have another victory up their sleeve, or will Evergreen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
