Dakota Valley comes up short despite Cameryn Sommervold's strong performance

On Tuesday, the Dakota Valley Panthers faced the Vermillion Tanagers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Dakota Valley fell 69-56 to Vermillion. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

When it comes to explaining why Dakota Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cameryn Sommervold. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with two blocks. Another player making a difference was Sophie Tuttle, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.

Dakota Valley's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Vermillion, they pushed their record up to 14-3 with that win, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Dakota Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against Dell Rapids at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Dell Rapids will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Dakota Rankings (they are ranked 115th, while Dakota Valley is ranked 19th). As for Vermillion, they and Lennox will face off at 6:30 p.m. on February 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
