            The Elk Grove Thundering Herd will square off against the Cardinal Newman Cardinals at 2:30  p.m.  on Saturday. Elk Grove will be strutting in after a  win while Cardinal Newman will be coming in after a  defeat.
Last Tuesday, Elk Grove sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with  a  7-5  victory over Davis Sr. The  win continues a trend for the Thundering Herd in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won three in a row.

 Cooper Gannon
Elk Grove got a great performance from  Cooper Gannon as he  pitched five innings while giving up just two earned  (and two unearned) runs off   six  hits. Gannon also  tossed  no  walks, which is notable because Elk Grove is 2-1 when he allows at  most  one  walk, but 1-2 otherwise.
 At the plate,  Brent Martin was  excellent,  going 1-for-4 with one  triple, two  RBI,  and one  run.  Matt Soares was another key player,  scoring a  run while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman fell victim to College Park and their airtight pitching crew  on Thursday. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of  2-0. The  contest marked the first time this season in which the Cardinals were not able to get on the board.
 Cardinal Newman saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Jace Wooley, who  went 2-for-3 with one  stolen base. That  stolen base marked the first that  Wooley  snagged this season.
 The  victory  got Elk Grove back to even at 3-3. As for Cardinal Newman, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 3-3.
 Elk Grove couldn't quite finish off Cardinal Newman when the teams last played  back in May of 2024 and fell  5-3. Can Elk Grove avenge their  defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
