Preview: Richland Royals vs. Molina Jaguars
The Richland Royals will head out on the road to face off against the Molina Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Richland is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
Last Friday, Richland's game was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Mansfield Timberview by a score of 37-27.
Richland got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Michael Turner out in front who rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns. Turner hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games. Deon Jones was in the mix too, providing Richland with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Molina had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Sunset 45-8 on the road. The win was just what Molina needed coming off of a 45-3 defeat in their prior match.
Adan Ochoa had an outrageously good game as he threw for 288 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per attempt. Robert Johnson did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 130 receiving yards.
Richland's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Molina, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Everything came up roses for Richland against Molina when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 62-8 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Richland since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
