Preview: Burlington Wildcats vs. Independence Bulldogs
The Burlington Wildcats will be playing at home against the Independence Bulldogs on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Burlington has three straight wins, Independence has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Burlington on the road against Eureka as the team secured a 60-26 win. That 34 points margin sets a new team best for Burlington this season.
Meanwhile, Independence was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 50-44 to Chanute. While losing is never fun, Independence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while Chanute is ranked 33rd).
Burlington's win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 22.4 points. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Burlington was able to grind out a solid victory over Independence in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, winning 69-61. Will Burlington repeat their success, or does Independence have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
