Edison waltzed into their game on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Seguin Matadors. This was a revenge game for the Golden Bears: when they faced off against the Matadors back in March, they had to take a 10-8 loss.

Luis Garcia Smith made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Garcia Smith wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Samaad Bunch, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Edison pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Seguin, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-7-1.

Coming up, Edison will square off against Sam Houston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Bears are facing the Hurricanes at the right time seeing as the Hurricanes are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Seguin, they will take on Burbank at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Matadors 3.5, the Bulldogs 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
