Baseball Recap: Claremont Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Claremont had lost five games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 10-12-1 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Ayala Bulldogs. This was a revenge game for the Wolfpack: when they faced off against the Bulldogs on Thursday, they had to take a 4-3 defeat.

Wyatt Green spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Claremont's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 5-2-1 (and 5-10 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Claremont saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cory Smykla, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Ayala, with the loss, they broke their nine-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since May 14, 2024.

On Ayala's side, they got a good showing from Hayden Hovey, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hovey has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

Claremont has already played their next game, an 8-2 victory against Diamond Bar on the 29th. As for Ayala, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-4 win against Bonita on the 29th.
