Softball Recap: Mumford Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Mumford had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hardin Hornets, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted since April 2, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Kelsie Rangel, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Jayla Martinez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Mumford hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in five consecutive contests.

Mumford pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hardin, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3-1.

Looking ahead, Mumford will take on Milano at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hardin, they will head out to challenge Anahuac at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Anahuac is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
