Of all the high school football state championship games played around the country this season, none will have more meaning than Connecticut's Class LL state championship game.
It certainly delivered in terms of drama, with the winning touchdown being scored as time expired.
But it goes a little deeper than that.
Saturday was the seventh anniversary of the second-deadliest mass school shooting in United States history. On Dec. 14, 2012, a gunman killed 26 people –
most of them small children – at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Perhaps the 2019
Newtown football team will be remembered for playing a small part in the long-term healing process for the community as it won the school's first state title since 1992 on Saturday in Trumbull.

Riley Ward on a 36-yard touchdown pass as time expired to give the Nighthawks a 13-7 win over Darien.

After trailing 7-0 for much of the contest, Newtown tied the game with seven minutes to go on another connection between Street and Ward.
Newtown finished the season 13-0.
