Softball Recap: Whitesboro's Run of Seven Straight Victories Now Over

Whitesboro fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Ponder on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 7-6. The Bearcats' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Avery Howerton put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 8.2 innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. Howerton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Bradi Gallaway was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jenna Cole, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Whitesboro's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Ponder, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Coincidentally, Whitesboro and Ponder will both be playing Pilot Point the next time they take the field. The Lions will head out to face the Bearcats at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Bearcats will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on the 17th.
