Basketball Recap: Shepherd Pirates vs. New Waverly Bulldogs
There's no place like home for the Shepherd Pirates, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They managed a 54-50 victory over New Waverly on Friday. That's another feather in the cap for Shepherd, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Shepherd's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Darrian Matthews led the charge by scoring 11 points along with six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristen Cullum, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Shepherd has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 18-13 record this season. As for New Waverly, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-19 record this season.
Shepherd will head out on the road to square off against the Fighting Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Anderson-Shiro has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for New Waverly, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
