Basketball Recap: Omaha Northwest Comes Up Short

Omaha Northwest lost against Omaha Central back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Omaha Northwest Huskies came up short against the Omaha Central Eagles, falling 63-43. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 228th, while the Eagles are ranked 80th).

Despite the loss, Omaha Northwest still got an impressive performance from DaWayne Kearney, who went 5 for 12 to rack up 15 points. Kearney continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Michael Dubose was another key player, putting up nine points and five blocks.

Leading Omaha Central to victory were Lenox Haynes and Evan Rodgers. Haynes went 5 of 10 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds, while Rodgers posted 13 points and five boards. That's the most rebounds Haynes has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ike Ackerman, who scored eight points and nine boards.

Omaha Northwest has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Omaha Central, their record is now 8-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Omaha Northwest and Millard South will meet in a classic North v. South matchup at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Omaha Central, they will square off against Bellevue East at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
