Basketball Recap: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Comes Up Short

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss. They fell 59-47 to the Pioneer Diamondbacks. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Javelinas this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 66-40 back in December of 2024.

Matthew Maldonado went supernova for Pioneer, going 6 of 15 en route to 16 points and eight steals. The dominant performance gave Maldonado a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Muhamed Shaath, who went 8 for 12 on his way to 18 points.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest's defeat dropped their record down to 2-18. As for Pioneer, their win bumped their record up to 14-18.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Vela the next time they take the court. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest will host Vela at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Pioneer will host them at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th.
