Softball Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

Liberty extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-9 in the process. They came up short against the Glencoe Crimson Tide, falling 10-0. Considering the last time the Falcons couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

As for Glencoe, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Considering they have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Glencoe's part, Irene Vandyke made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Vandyke was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Kalli Farrimond was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base. Izabella Howell was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Looking ahead, Liberty will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Forest Grove at 4:00 p.m. The Vikings will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight. As for Glencoe, they will head out to square off against Century at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Crimson Tide 2.7, the Jaguars 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
