Basketball Recap: Holmes County Central Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Holmes County Central faced off against Canton on Tuesday. The Holmes County Central Jaguars fell 46-34 to the Canton Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Tigers are ranked 19th).

Shamira Morton continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Canton, dropping a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. Morton is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amya Hunter, who posted four points in addition to five boards and three blocks.

Holmes County Central has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. As for Canton, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-5.

Holmes County Central will welcome Greenville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Holmes County Central is facing Greenville at the right time seeing as Greenville is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Canton, they will venture away from home to face off against Gentry at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
