Baseball Recap: Atascadero Has No Trouble Against Chowchilla

The Atascadero Greyhounds got the win against the Chowchilla Tribe on Friday by a conclusive 8-1. Considering the Greyhounds have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Uly Kaul made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. He has become a key player for Atascadero: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 2-3 otherwise. Kaul was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

In other pitching news, Steven Ernst looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Kaul wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Reid Gearhart, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Gearhart launched this season. Zach Savino was another, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Atascadero has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.8 hits in those games compared to only 3.33 in the others. Chowchilla is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Atascadero didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 5-4 defeat against Sierra Pacific on the 25th. As for Chowchilla, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 12-8 loss against Morro Bay on the 22nd.
