Baseball Game Preview: Erie-Prophetstown Panthers vs. Kewanee Boilermakers

The Erie-Prophetstown Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the Kewanee Boilermakers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Erie-Prophetstown has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight losses, while Kewanee will come in with four straight wins.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Erie-Prophetstown and Rockridge had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Panthers fell just short of the Rockets by a score of 4-2 last Tuesday. Panthers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Rockets since last Tuesday.

Parker Rangel was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kewanee). They put the hurt on Knoxville with a sharp 18-11 victory on Tuesday. The Boilermakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.

Colson Welgat was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Logan Peed was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Kewanee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.6.

Erie-Prophetstown's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Kewanee, their record now sits at 6-4.
