Basketball Recap: Webster City Takes a Loss

Webster City was the 47-42 winner over Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Webster City Lynx were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 57-56 to Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Lynx came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS are ranked 271st).

Webster City dropped their record down to 4-6 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS, they moved to 2-7 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Webster City will be playing in front of their home fans against Nevada at 7:45 p.m. on Monday. Nevada knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Webster City likes a good challenge. As for Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-47 victory against Estherville Lincoln Central on the 11th.
