Baseball Game Preview: Briarcrest Christian Saints vs. Magnolia Heights Chiefs

Briarcrest Christian has won three straight games at home, while Magnolia Heights has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Saturday. The Saints will host the Chiefs at 2:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Briarcrest Christian 2.7, Magnolia Heights 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Briarcrest Christian had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Lausanne Collegiate on Thursday. The Saints were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Lynx. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Carter Hanshew looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Clayton Speck and Luke McGee did most of the damage at the plate: Speck went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while McGee got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave McGee a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Photopulos, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Magnolia Heights was able to grind out a solid victory over Bayou Academy on Tuesday, taking the game 6-3.

Magnolia Heights is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 30-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Briarcrest Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 17-9.
