Oakton came out on top against Mount Vernon on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run second inning. The Cougars put the hurt on the Majors with a sharp 12-2 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.

Oakton's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Mount Vernon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Oakton will square off against Westfield at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Mount Vernon, they will challenge Unity Reed at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
