Preview: John Milledge Academy Trojans vs. Tattnall Square Academy Trojans
After two games on the road, John Milledge Academy is heading back home. They will take on The Tattnall Square Academy Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Tattnall Square Academy took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on John Milledge Academy, who comes in off a win.
John Milledge Academy put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Mount de Sales Academy on the road to the tune of 49-17. With John Milledge Academy ahead 42-3 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
It was another big night for Javian Butts, who rushed for 163 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Butts was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 66 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Butts, who gained 73 total yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Tattnall Square Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of First Presbyterian Day by a score of 29-26.
Antone Johnson put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 271 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 15.1 yards per carry. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played.
John Milledge Academy's victory was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.9 points per game. As for Tattnall Square Academy, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. John Milledge Academy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 294.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Tattnall Square Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 272 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
John Milledge Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Tattnall Square Academy in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, winning 28-21. Will John Milledge Academy repeat their success, or does Tattnall Square Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
