Basketball Recap: Cordova Comes Up Short

If Cordova was riding high fresh off their 53-22 takedown of Curry last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cordova Blue Devils were beaten by the Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders 73-24 on Thursday. The Blue Devils were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 55-13.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gatlinburg-Pittman to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maliyah Glasper, who went 8 for 14 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. Glasper's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Mejias, who went 9 of 13 on her way to 20 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Cordova now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cordova will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on West Point at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Moore County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
