Softball Game Preview: Elko Indians vs. Fernley Vaqueros

The Elko Indians will challenge the Fernley Vaqueros at 8:30 a.m. on Friday. Elko is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Elko heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Thursday. They fell just short of Churchill County by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Indians couldn't push the score so high this time.

Taylor Hunton was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kallista Crouch made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Fernley faced Lowry in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Vaqueros fell 5-2 to the Buckaroos. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Vaqueros couldn't push the score so high this time.
