Softball Recap: Orem Snags Sixth Victory in Last Eight Games

Orem made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Skyridge, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Orem never let Skyridge get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory on Friday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by nine runs or more this season.

Kiley Hoshnic made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Orem let Hannah Maylett and Sadie Groneman run wild. Maylett went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Groneman scored three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Maylett has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Allred, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Orem kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Orem is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. Skyridge now has a losing record of 5-6.

Orem has already played their next game (against Timpview), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Skyridge, they will be playing at home against Timpanogos at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Timpanogos will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Skyridge surely won't give up without a fight.
