Recap: Central Academy Cougars vs. Monroe Redhawks

This season hasn't been kind to the Central Academy Cougars, who are still winless after their 14th contest. They were the victim of a rough 44-23 defeat at the hands of Monroe on Friday. Central Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 24-4.

When it comes to explaining why Central Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jadah Pringle. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 52.2% of Central Academy's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Central Academy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Monroe posted 12 assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monroe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jahdallia Montgomery, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Montgomery has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Saniya Gingham, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.

Central Academy bumped their record down to 0-14 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Monroe, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-9.

Central Academy will head out on the road to challenge Parkwood at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Parkwood knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Central Academy likes a good challenge. As for Monroe, they will be playing at home against Forest Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Forest Hills and Monroe are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
