Basketball Game Preview: Mater Lakes Academy Bears vs. Doral Academy Firebirds

The Mater Lakes Academy Bears will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against the Doral Academy Firebirds at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

Mater Lakes Academy easily dispatched Archbishop McCarthy on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Bears fell just short of Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart by a score of 47-44 on Thursday.

Mater Lakes Academy might have lost, but man, Vanessa Vancott was a machine: she went 10-for-19 on her way to 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Taryn Wakefield, who posted nine points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Doral Academy made easy work of Palmer Trinity on Saturday and carried off a 52-29 win. The victory continues a trend for the Firebirds in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won three in a row.

Mater Lakes Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Doral Academy, the win also got them back to even at 1-1.

Mater Lakes Academy took a serious blow against Doral Academy in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, falling 97-65. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
