Recap: Palma Chieftains vs. Soquel Knights
While it was all tied up 7-7 at halftime, The Palma Chieftains were not quite the Soquel Knights''s equal in the second half on Friday. Palma fell 14-7 to Soquel. Despite 54 more yards than Soquel, Palma couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Thomas Nunes threw for 148 yards on 17 of 25 attempts. Logan Saldate was his top target, picking up 60 receiving yards and no touchdowns. On the ground, Eli Dukes rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown.
Leading Soquel to victory were Sam Whelan and Jordan Mccord. Whelan threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, while Mccord picked up 119 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Palma's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 5-3. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Soquel, Monterey, and Yuma Catholic. As for Soquel, the victory was the fourth in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Palma will be playing in front of their home fans against Salinas at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Salinas is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games. Soquel will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Aptos at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd.
