Video game state championships coming to Arizona

The video games, that is.

The Arizona Interscholastic Association announced Monday during an executive board meeting that eSports is joining its list of state championship activities offerings.

Students will vie for eSports state titles in Rocket League and League of Legends, according to AIA Executive Director David Hines.

Mississippi is another state putting its toes in the water with eSports, announcing a pilot program for 2018-19.

The National Federation of State High School Associations took a big step toward opening the doors for eSports participation in April by naming PlayVS the official platform for gaming competition.
