The Old Orchard Beach Seagulls will square off against the Mount View Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Old Orchard Beach is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Old Orchard Beach came up short against St. Dominic and fell 9-4. The loss was the Seagulls' first of the season.
Aiden Hodgkins put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Wesley Gallant made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Gallant is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Caleb Aube was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mount View sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Maine Central Institute on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won eight in a row.
Like Old Orchard Beach, Mount View also got a great game from a two-way player: Cole Gerrish. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Gerrish was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaden Bradeen, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Miles Carter, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Having lost for the first time this season, Old Orchard Beach fell to 3-1. As for Mount View, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Old Orchard Beach has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mount View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Old Orchard Beach beat Mount View 6-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Seagulls repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
