Football Recap: Isabell Ramirez and Raelene Cruz Secure Win for Covina

Covina's game on Tuesday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They secured an 18-12 W over the Don Lugo Conquistadores. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Colts.

A big part of Covina's victory came down to the chemistry between Raelene Cruz and her top target Isabell Ramirez. Cruz threw for 107 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Ramirez gained 83 total yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Cruz a new career-high in rushing yards (57).

Covina didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Kennedy Porter was the real danger to the passing game, picking up two interceptions all by herself. She got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Although Don Lugo took the loss, they still got scores from Maliyah Stahl and Rylan Galan.

Covina now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Don Lugo, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Coming up, Covina will venture away from home to take on Bonita at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bearcats will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last. As for Don Lugo, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 34-6 loss against Western Christian on the 20th.
