Meanwhile, Mabank didn't have quite enough to beat Ferris on Tuesday and fell 3-2.
Mabank took Ferris into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking three-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-28, 25-21, 27-25, 24-26, 15-12.
Despite the defeat, Mabank had strong showings from Lindsey Cope, who had 22 digs, 11 kills, and four aces, and Khilyn Wilkinson, who had 28 digs. The dominant performance gave her a new career- in aces.
Athens' loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Mabank, they now have a losing record at 10-11.
