Softball Recap: Lutheran West Starts Season with Win Against Valley Forge

Lutheran West took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Valley Forge Patriots 22-21. This was payback for the Longhorns, who suffered a 7-6 loss the last time these two teams met.

Emerson 'Emmy' Hayes was incredible, scoring six runs and stealing nine bases while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Kailyn Caster, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

Looking ahead, Lutheran West will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against St. Martin de Porres at 5:00 p.m. As for Valley Forge, they will challenge Cuyahoga Heights at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
