Basketball Recap: Callaway Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Biloxi

On Saturday, Callaway faced Biloxi in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Callaway Chargers fell to the Biloxi Indians 45-40. The Chargers' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Callaway lost, don't look at Jahanna Wilson. Despite the final result, she went 10 for 23 on her way to 25 points in addition to six boards and four steals. Wilson is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Trinity Cook, who posted four points and three steals.

Biloxi found their leader in sophomore Zaniya Johnson, who had 13 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Johnson has been hot, having posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played. Aaliyah Davison was another key player, putting up eight points.

Callaway's defeat dropped their record down to 15-3. As for Biloxi, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 18-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Callaway will host Columbus at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Columbus has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Biloxi, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Martin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both have allowed few points on average, (Biloxi: 26.9, St. Martin: 27.6) so any points scored will be well earned.
