Basketball Game Preview: Avon Pirates vs. Irene/Wakonda Eagles

The Avon Pirates will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Irene/Wakonda Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Last Thursday, Avon was beaten by Centerville 59-26. The defeat continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Tornadoes: they've now lost four in a row.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 66-31, which was the final score in Irene/Wakonda's tilt against Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Saturday. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Avon's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Irene/Wakonda, they now have a losing record at 1-2.

Avon strolled past Irene/Wakonda in their previous meeting back in March of 2018 by a score of 60-45. Will Avon repeat their success, or does Irene/Wakonda have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
