Basketball Recap: Mercer County Takes a Loss

On Tuesday, the Mercer County Golden Eagles were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 50-45 to the St. Bede Bruins. While the Golden Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bruins 24-17 in the first quarter.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Bede to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lili McClain, who went 9-for-18 en route to 23 points. Those 23 points gave McClain a new career-high. Savannah Bray was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.

Mercer County has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 14-17 record this season. As for St. Bede, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-12.

Mercer County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Bede, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Gardner-South Wilmington at 5:00 p.m.
