Baseball Recap: Monroe Central Wins Going Away Against Adams Central

After losing to Adams Central the last time they met, Monroe Central decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Golden Bears put the hurt on the Flying Jets with a sharp 11-5 win on Saturday. Considering the Golden Bears have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Myles Oliphant made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Isaac Middleton was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Monroe Central is undefeated when Middleton posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Pence, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Monroe Central hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

Monroe Central now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Adams Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Adams Central beat Monroe Central by a score of 14-11 later that day.
