Baseball Game Preview: Rock Falls Rockets vs. Dixon Dukes & Duchesses

For the second straight game, Rock Falls will face off against Dixon. The Rockets will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Dukes & Duchesses at 4:30 p.m.

Rock Falls took a 12-run loss the last time they faced off against Dixon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rockets narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Dukes & Duchesses 10-8.

Mason Landes was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Castaneda, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Rock Falls is 6-1 when Castaneda posts two or more runs, but 4-9-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Moore, who went 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI.

Rock Falls kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dixon only managed six hits.

Rock Falls' victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-10-1. As for Dixon, with the defeat, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-4.
