Basketball Recap: Rudder Takes a Loss

Rudder was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 77-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huntsville Hornets. While losing is never fun, the Rangers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 502nd, while the Hornets are ranked 214th).

When it comes to explaining why Rudder lost, don't look at Jaquise Martin. Despite the final result, he went 9 of 15 en route to 24 points along with six rebounds and six steals. That's the most points Martin has posted since back in February of 2024. Diego Salazar Gold was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Rudder smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Rudder's defeat dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Huntsville, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-5.

Rudder will venture away from home to square off against A&M Consolidated at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Rudder is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54 points per game this season. As for Huntsville, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lake Creek at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Huntsville's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
