Softball Game Preview: Notre Dame Pioneers vs. Midland Rebels

The Notre Dame Pioneers will face off against the Midland Rebels at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Notre Dame is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

On Wednesday, Notre Dame made easy work of Cecilia and carried off a 12-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won 22 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Bella Smith looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kenley Sonnier was incredible, firing off two home runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI while going 3-for-3. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Valerie Brown was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Meanwhile, Midland lost 14-4 to Lake Arthur on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Rebels in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost three in a row.

Notre Dame pushed their record up to 25-0 with the victory, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Midland, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
