East Ridge proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 37) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Mount Dora Hurricanes 28-25. This was payback for the Knights, who suffered a 45-14 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Mount Dora's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tymir Gaines, who rushed for 226 yards and one touchdown while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. Gaines was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 53 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of D'Micah Lowman, who rushed for 114 yards on only 14 carries.

East Ridge's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Mount Dora, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Ridge will challenge Davenport at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Mount Dora, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bishop Moore at 7:00 p.m. on September 12.
