Baseball Recap: St. Charles Triumphs

While St. Charles's win against Chatfield wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Saints sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Gophers on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Gophers: they've now won four in a row.

St. Charles got a great performance from Ethan Chelmowski as he struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Chelmowski a new career-high.

At the plate, St. Charles' victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Connor Marquardt, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. The Saints are undefeated when Marquardt posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Another was Evan O'Bryan, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

St. Charles' win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Chatfield, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-11.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. St. Charles will face off against rival Plainview-Elgin-Millville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Chatfield is set to challenge their familiar foe Dover-Eyota at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
