League recap: Cedar Grove stuns Woodward Academy in upset

AAA Region 6 recap Nov. 7, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Woodward Academy, who took down 87th ranked Woodward Academy, 47-14. Johnathon McCrary in the win.

St. Pius X Catholic was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in AAA Region 6. The Golden Lions vanquished Blessed Trinity 24-17 earlier in the week.

6-foot-4 quarterback McCrary of Cedar Grove is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1441. He has also thrown 17 touchdowns. On the ground, the Titans' Milton Shelton has rushed for 603 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Sam Roberts. The Blessed Trinity star has 18 catches for 338 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Blessed Trinity takes on the Saints. As it stands, the Titans are in second, while Cedar Grove is in fourth.

There should be lots of points scored when Blessed Trinity and the Saints face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Titans comes in having scored 224 this season, while Cedar Grove has scored 302. Blessed Trinity scored 17 points last week as it lost to St. Pius X Catholic.

The Saints moved up to 138 from 176 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAA Region 6. Cedar Grove climbed the ranks as a result of besting the War Eagles 47-14.
