Preview: Van Horn Eagles vs. Sierra Blanca Vaqueros
Van Horn is 8-2 against Sierra Blanca since December of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Van Horn Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sierra Blanca Vaqueros at 6:00 p.m. Van Horn will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
Van Horn posted their biggest victory since December 7, 2023 on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 44-19 margin over Big Bend.
Van Horn's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mallory Mendoza, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Taylor Martinez, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sierra Blanca was able to grind out a solid win over Dell City two weeks ago, taking the game 39-26. The win was just what Sierra Blanca needed coming off of a 56-18 loss in their prior game.
Sierra Blanca's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Haylee Walker, who scored 15 points. Amaya Sanchez was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Van Horn is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Sierra Blanca, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-7.
Van Horn didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Sierra Blanca in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 26-21 win.
