Basketball Recap: Brayden Dealto's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Clover Garden School over Chatham Charter

After flying high against River Mill last Friday, Clover Garden School came back down to earth. The Clover Garden School Grizzlies took a 50-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chatham Charter Knights on Tuesday. The contest was a 19-19 toss-up at halftime, but the Grizzlies couldn't quite close it out.

Several Grizzlies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brayden DeAlto, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds gave DeAlto a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Akers, who posted nine points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Clover Garden School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Brennan LaVelle continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Chatham Charter, putting up five points in addition to nine rebounds and four steals. LaVelle is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Gabe McKoy was another key player, earning six points and three steals.

Clover Garden School has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. As for Chatham Charter, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-8.

Clover Garden School has already played their next contest (against Bethany Community), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Chatham Charter will head out to square off against Southern Wake Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Southern Wake Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matches.
