Softball Game Preview: Deer Park Stags vs. Rogers Pirates

Deer Park has gone a perfect 3-0 against Rogers recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Stags will host the Pirates at 12:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Deer Park's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Rogers has been banged up by 15 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Deer Park made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Riverside, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Stags were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Rams on Tuesday. The Stags might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Hailey Thompson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Deer Park got a massive performance out of Lucy Lathrop, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammy Fausti, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Deer Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverside only posted an OBP of .407.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rogers). They blew past North Central 44-30 on Tuesday. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Wolfpack recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Deer Park's win bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Rogers, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-10.

Deer Park took their win against Rogers when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 25-4 score. Will the Stags repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
