R.J. Reynolds has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Mount Tabor Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, R.J. Reynolds didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Davie, but they still walked away with a 48-43 win.
R.J. Reynolds had a senior duo take command as Elliott Jessup scored 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds and Destiny Thompson scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Shyla Simms, who scored five points.
Even though Mount Tabor has not done well against West Forsyth recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Mount Tabor put the hurt on West Forsyth with a sharp 62-38 win. Given Mount Tabor's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while West Forsyth is ranked 242nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
R.J. Reynolds pushed their record up to 10-7 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Mount Tabor, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
R.J. Reynolds strolled past Mount Tabor in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 62-46. Does R.J. Reynolds have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mount Tabor turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
