The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Mavericks' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
David Victoria and Colin McCartney did most of the damage at the plate: Victoria scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while McCartney scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits Victoria has posted since back in April of 2024. Stephen Scott also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Mallard Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Mecklenburg only posted an OBP of .067.
Meanwhile, East Mecklenburg entered their tilt with Community School of Davidson on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Spartans.
Liam Parsons was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for East Mecklenburg: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Samuel Thompson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
East Mecklenburg pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mallard Creek, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-7.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mallard Creek has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like East Mecklenburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .505. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
