There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. There's a new number one at the head of the rankings as well as a new caboose.
Can't Touch This
Valley Center got a 70 - 7 win over Fallbrook last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Mateo Sinohui. Sinohui ran for 202 yards and also punched in four touchdowns. That performance landed Sinohui among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The confrontation between La Costa Canyon (3rd in the power rankings) and San Marcos (7th) did not disappoint. La Costa Canyon was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as it fell 12 - 8 to San Marcos. The fight La Costa Canyon demonstrated in its 31 - 20 win the game before seemed replaced by lethargy in this one.
Movin on Up
It isn't too difficult to come out on top when you enjoy a 103-yard edge over your opponent, and Poway had just that last week. It took its game by a score of 35 - 21. One star in particular for it was junior Josh Butler, who rushed for 230 yards and two touchdowns. The success catapulted Poway six spots up the power rankings, enough to make it the biggest riser of the week.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between St. Augustine (5th in the power rankings) and Cathedral Catholic (1st). Both teams have their heads held high after dominating their previous opponents. Cathedral Catholic and St. Augustine both have plenty of landslide victories under their belts (Cathedral Catholic with four and St. Augustine with four), but only one can come away triumphant this week. We'll find out who that is soon.
