Softball Recap: Emery Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Emery, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over the Canyon View Falcons on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won four in a row.

Kallee Lake made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Lake wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kali Jensen, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Jensen has posted over her last 13 matches. Morgan Tutrle also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Emery pushed their record up to 6-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Canyon View, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-14.

Looking ahead, Emery will take on San Juan at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. San Juan has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.86 runs per game on average), something Emery will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Canyon View, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when Canyon View Falcons challenge North Sanpete Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. North Sanpete will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Canyon View surely won't give up without a fight.
