Baseball Recap: Grayson County Has No Trouble Against George Wythe

Grayson County had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 10-6 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the George Wythe Maroons. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by nine runs or more this season.

Makray Goad made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Grayson County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Adam Pennington was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI and one run. Mav Goad was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Grayson County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

As for George Wythe, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9-1 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

On George Wythe's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cade Bralley, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grayson County will face off against Carroll County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cavaliers will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight. As for George Wythe, they will square off against Giles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
